Biography

Paulo Porto Alegre is a renowned Brazilian classical guitarist, composer, and arranger, born in São Paulo in 1953. Recognized as one of the most important guitarist-composers of his generation, he stands out for the eclecticism of his repertoire, which ranges from classical and contemporary music to jazz and brazilian popular music. His body of work for the guitar is vast and acclaimed by specialized critics.

Throughout his career, Paulo Porto Alegre has won several international interpretation and composition competitions, consolidating his name on the musical scene. He has performed as a soloist with major Brazilian orchestras and on international stages, collaborating with renowned conductors such as Camargo Guarnieri and Isaac Karabtchevsky. In addition to his original compositions, such as "Quatro Sonatas" and "12 Estudos Populares", Porto Alegre also performs works dedicated to him by composers such as Radamés Gnattali and Sérgio Assad.

Paulo Porto Alegre is also an influential educator, serving as a tenured professor at the São Paulo State School of Music and the São Paulo Municipal School of Music. He is a founding member of important groups such as the Núcleo Hespérides and the Trio Opus 12 de Violões. In 2013, he was honored at the 4th Leo Brouwer International Guitar Festival in recognition of his significant contribution to the Brazilian guitar.
