Paulo Sérgio was a celebrated Brazilian singer, songwriter, and actor, widely recognized as one of the definitive voices of romantic music in the country. Born in Alegre, Espírito Santo, he began his musical journey at an early age before launching his professional career in Rio de Janeiro during the late 1960s, quickly associating with the vibrant Jovem Guarda movement. His breakthrough came with the release of his debut single Benzinho, followed by the monumental success of his first full-length album in 1968, which featured his signature hit Última Canção and sold hundreds of thousands of copies nationwide.

Throughout his prolific thirteen-year career, Paulo Sérgio established himself as a phenomenal commercial success, releasing thirteen studio albums and selling over ten million records. Often categorized within the popular romantic segment, his music resonated deeply with the working-class populace by narrating everyday struggles and emotions during a complex socio-political era in Brazil. Despite early comparisons to fellow icon Roberto Carlos due to his vocal timbre, Paulo Sérgio carved out a distinct artistic identity that earned him enduring popularity and affection from millions of fans across the country.
