Biography

Manoel Nunes Pereira, known artistically as Peão Carreiro, was born in Mirassolândia, in the countryside of São Paulo, on September 6, 1932. He passed away on May 13, 1999, in Londrina, Paraná. His musical career began in 1957, and throughout his journey, he formed several successful duos, most notably his partnership with Zé Paulo.

Peão Carreiro was a multifaceted artist, working as a singer and songwriter. His compositions were recorded by several renowned artists of sertanejo music, such as Milionário and José Rico, Trio Parada Dura, Sérgio Reis, among others. Among his hits as a songwriter are "Telefone Mudo" and "Sonhei com Você". His powerful voice and "emotional" interpretative style established him as one of the great names of traditional sertanejo music.

In addition to his musical career, Peão Carreiro pursued other professions, such as taxi driver, bar owner, and police delegate. His musical work left a significant legacy, with songs that portray rural daily life, love, and longing, and that continue to move audiences to this day. He is remembered as a chronicler of rural life, whose compositions possess an inexhaustible artistic strength.
