Biography

Pedro de Abreu Maciel, widely known as Pedrinho da Flor, is a prominent Brazilian singer, songwriter, and carnival director born in Rio de Janeiro. His artistic journey began within the block Flor da Mina do Andaraí, where he helped found the organization, served as its president on multiple occasions, and wrote numerous plot sambas. Mentored by the acclaimed samba artist Almir Guineto, Pedrinho expanded his reach by joining the composer wings of several traditional samba schools in the Tijuca region, including Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, Império da Tijuca, and Unidos da Tijuca.

Throughout the 1980s, his talent gained wider recognition after performing at the famous Cacique de Ramos. His compositions soon caught the attention of major groups, such as Fundo de Quintal, who recorded his songs like "Você quer voltar" and "É bem melhor assim". Over the decades, his prolific songwriting led to collaborations with various esteemed artists, resulting in recordings by notable interpreters like Zeca Pagodinho, Marquinho Sathan, and Dominguinhos do Estácio.

In addition to his enduring legacy as a composer of romantic and carnival sambas, Pedrinho has achieved remarkable success in samba-enredo competitions for Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, winning crucial contests across decades—from the 1990s into the 2020s. His deep dedication to his roots was further demonstrated when he led the Flor da Mina do Andaraí to a championship title as president and continued to pen award-winning anthems for Salgueiro.
