Biography

Pedro Airton da Costa Rodrigues, known artistically as Pedrinho Rodrigues, was a prominent Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Aracaju in 1936. He began his musical journey singing on Rádio Liberdade in his hometown before achieving wider recognition in 1961 when discovered by Nilo Sérgio of the Musidisc label, initially performing as part of pianist Ed Lincoln's ensemble.

Throughout his career, Rodrigues became particularly renowned for his significant contributions to the sambalanço genre, blending samba rhythms with sophisticated jazz influences. In 1968, he further expanded his artistic reach by joining the group A Turma da Pilantragem, participating in the vibrant musical movements of the era and collaborating with notable artists such as Bebel Gilberto.

His prolific discography includes numerous solo albums and notable collaborations, ranging from his early work with Ed Lincoln to later projects like his tributes to Geraldo Pereira. Pedrinho Rodrigues left a lasting legacy in Brazilian popular music before passing away in 1996.
