Biography

Pequeno Cidadão is a Brazilian rock band founded in São Paulo by established musicians Arnaldo Antunes, Taciana Barros, Edgard Scandurra, and Antonio Pinto, alongside their children. The project originated in 2008 when the founders, who were already prominent figures from the 1980s music scene, reconnected through their young children attending the same school. Initially sharing their custom-made children's songs on Myspace to great acclaim, they soon released their self-titled debut studio album in 2009 via Rosa Celeste, blending pop rock and psychedelic rock styles centered around family life.

Following their successful debut, the band embarked on vibrant theater tours, released a DVD, and authored children's books such as A Viagem Fantástica do Pequeno Cidadão and Tchau Chupeta. Their tracks were also featured on popular television soap operas like Carrossel and Chiquititas, helping to broaden their multi-generational appeal. Arnaldo Antunes departed from the group in 2012 to concentrate on his solo career, while the remaining members continued to release subsequent records including Pequeno Cidadão 2 and Vem Dançar.

The band members brought extensive pedigrees from other notable Brazilian musical acts, with Edgard Scandurra having founded Ira! and played with Ultraje a Rigor, Taciana Barros having been part of Gang 90 e as Absurdettes, and Antonio Pinto contributing extensively to film scores. Through these rich backgrounds, Pequeno Cidadão established a unique niche in Brazilian children's music by delivering sophisticated rock arrangements tailored for both parents and kids.
