Biography

Péricles Bastos de Santana, better known as Perinho Santana, was born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1949. He was a renowned Brazilian guitarist, composer, arranger, and music producer. His musical career began in the capital of Bahia, where he played alongside artists such as Raul Seixas. He later moved to Rio de Janeiro, establishing himself as an important name in Brazilian music.

Perinho Santana had an extensive collaboration with several major MPB artists, including Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Marisa Monte, and Luiz Melodia. His partnership with Luiz Melodia was particularly notable, as he participated in much of the singer-songwriter's career and co-wrote songs such as "Só" and "Sonho Imaginação." He was also a partner of Cazuza on the song "Dia dos Namorados," originally recorded in 1987.

His last work was with the band O Síndico, formed by former members of Tim Maia's backing band. Perinho Santana passed away on November 30, 2012, in Rio de Janeiro, at the age of 63, due to cardiac arrest, following treatment for leukemia and with pre-existing heart problems. His musical legacy lives on through his recordings and partnerships.
