Perla, born Ermelinda Pedroso Rodríguez D'Almeida in Caacupé, Paraguay, is a renowned singer and songwriter who established her successful musical career in Brazil. Coming from a humble musical family, she initially performed with her father and siblings in the group Las Maravillas del Paraguay before moving to Brazil in the early 1970s to pursue broader opportunities. Settling first in Rio de Janeiro, she quickly rose to prominence on radio and television, eventually becoming a celebrated romantic singer known for her powerful voice and charismatic stage presence.

Throughout her prolific career, Perla achieved remarkable commercial success, selling over 15 million albums and earning numerous accolades, including multiple gold and platinum certifications. Her diverse musical repertoire successfully blended traditional Latin genres like guarânias and boleros with popular international covers, most notably Portuguese adaptations of Italian hits, disco-music tracks, and several songs by the Swedish group ABBA, such as her famous rendition of "Fernando".
