Biography

The name "Pernambuco" can refer to different artists and figures connected to Brazilian music, being a name of strong regional identity. One of the historical names associated with this name is João Pernambuco, a classical guitarist and composer from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for his compositions and for frequenting musical circles in Rio de Janeiro, where he earned the nickname for always telling stories of his homeland.

Another notable figure is "Pernambuco do Tamborete", the stage name of Inácio Pinheiro Sobrinho, a percussionist and composer born in Pernambuco in 1924. He had an active musical career starting in the 1940s, playing on the radio and in nightclubs, and even formed his own group, with which he launched Hermeto Pascoal and toured Europe.

Besides these, the state of Pernambuco is a hotbed of musical talent, with many contemporary artists who carry the state's name in their artistic identity or who are widely recognized for their contribution to Brazilian music. Names like Alceu Valença, Lenine, Otto, Siba, Amaro Freitas, and Chico Science, although they do not use "Pernambuco" as their main stage name, are exponents of the rich Pernambucan music scene.
