Biography

Pietá is a Brazilian musical trio formed in 2012, originating from the theater school of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Unirio). The band is composed of Frederico Demarca, Juliana Linhares, and Rafael Lorga. Their music is characterized by a blend of tradition and contemporaneity, often incorporating elements of theater and poetry into their performances and songwriting. Pietá's repertoire is predominantly original, showcasing their commitment to promoting and making accessible the new music produced in Brazil.

Throughout their career, Pietá has performed on major stages in Rio de Janeiro and toured across several Brazilian states. They gained recognition after winning "Best Band" and "Best Vocalist" at the 2014 WebFestWalda festival. Their debut album, "Leve O Que Quiser," released in 2015, was crowdfunded by fans and featured collaborations with notable Brazilian artists such as Chico César, Carlos Malta, and Cláudio Nucci. The band's artistic journey also includes their participation in the musical "Gabriela Cravo e Canela."

Pietá's discography includes "Santo Sossego" (2019), produced by Jr Tostoi, and "Nasci no Brasil" (2024), which features a strong percussive accent and deep roots in Brazilian culture. The album "Nasci no Brasil" has been noted for its exploration of national rhythms and its connection to the country's diverse heritage, including references to Tupi culture and reinterpretations of classic Brazilian songs. The band's work consistently reflects their dedication to exploring Brazilian identity through music and art, often collaborating with other artists and engaging with social and political themes.
