Biography

Pife Muderno is a Brazilian musical group founded in 1994 by multi-instrumentalist Carlos Malta. The project was born from Malta's strong connection with the pífano, a traditional instrument from Northeastern Brazil, and his desire to innovate by uniting popular culture with contemporary musical languages. Throughout its trajectory, Pife Muderno has established itself as one of the most important and long-standing projects in Brazilian instrumental music, influencing new generations of musicians and expanding the sound of the pífano beyond regional borders.

The group stands out for its minimalist formation and the rhythmic genius of its members, who blend elements of jazz, afro-indigenous music, and MPB, creating a unique and contagious sound. With a repertoire that transitions between original compositions and reinterpretations of great names in Brazilian music such as Luiz Gonzaga, Jackson do Pandeiro, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso, Pife Muderno presents a musical proposal that dialogues with the popular and the erudite, the ancestral and the universal.
