Biography
Boanerges Nunes Lobato Júnior, known artistically as Pio Lobato, was born in Belém, Pará, in 1971. He is a guitarist and music producer recognized for his work in revitalizing and expanding the "guitarrada" genre in the Brazilian music scene. He began his musical career in the early 1990s, exploring the fusion of regional rhythms from Pará with influences from rock and electronic music.
Pio Lobato is one of the main figures responsible for projecting guitarrada, a genre that emerged in the 1970s from a mixture of choro, merengue, and jovem-guarda. His musical research, which began at the Federal University of Pará, led him to delve deeply into the work of Mestre Vieira, the creator of guitarrada. In 2003, he conceived and produced the project "Mestres da Guitarrada," bringing together exponents of the genre and establishing a new perspective for it in the country. Throughout his career, he has released several solo albums, consolidating his work in experimentalism with loops and guitars, moving between the traditional and the contemporary.
In addition to his solo career, Pio Lobato played a fundamental role in the band Cravo Carbono, which between 1996 and 2008 pioneered the reinterpretation of regional rhythms from Pará and pop experimentation. Currently, he works as a guitarist and music producer for the renowned singer Dona Onete, contributing to the diffusion of music from Pará. His work is marked by a constant search for new sonorities, incorporating elements of progressive rock, world music, tecnobrega, and cybertecno, making him a central figure in bridging tradition and modernity in the music of Pará.
