Biography
Priscilla Novaes Leone, known professionally as Pitty, is a prominent Brazilian singer, songwriter, and musician who emerged as a major force in contemporary rock music. Born in Salvador, Bahia, she spent part of her youth in Porto Seguro before returning to Salvador, where she immersed herself in the local underground rock scene. She initially gained recognition as the drummer for the all-female punk rock band Shes and later as the vocalist for the hardcore punk band Inkoma, releasing the EP Influir in 2000 before embarking on a highly successful solo career. Collaborating with producer Rafael Ramos, she released her debut solo album, Admirável Chip Novo, in 2003 through Deckdisc. Propelled by hits like "Máscara" and the title track, the album became the best-selling rock record of the year in Brazil, establishing her distinct alternative rock sound and outspoken persona. Throughout her career, Pitty has released acclaimed studio albums such as Anacrônico (2005), Chiaroscuro (2009), Setevidas (2014), and Matriz (2019). Her musical evolution also encompassed the folk side-project Agridoce alongside guitarist Martin Mendonça, as well as collaborative endeavors with artists like Nando Reis and Negra Li. Recognized with numerous awards including MTV Video Music Brasil trophies and Latin Grammy nominations, she remains an iconic figure whose sharp lyricism and energetic performances have deeply influenced Brazilian rock alongside peers such as Rita Lee and Raul Seixas.
Over the decades, Pitty has continually expanded her artistic boundaries while maintaining a staunchly independent ethos. Her work effortlessly bridges heavy guitar-driven rock with subtle grooves and regional Brazilian rhythms, a synthesis vividly displayed on albums like Matriz. Beyond her solo output and side projects, she has engaged with diverse cultural platforms, including serving as a co-host on the television show Saia Justa and broadcasting interactive musical sessions on Twitch. Her enduring impact on the national music landscape cements her status as one of the definitive voices of modern Brazilian rock.
