Biography

Planta & Raiz is a prominent Brazilian reggae band formed in 1998 in São Paulo. Initially starting out as a cover band performing Bob Marley songs at local street fairs, the group quickly transitioned into composing original material and establishing themselves as a cornerstone of the Brazilian reggae scene. Their debut demo, A Planta Que Brota da Terra, laid the groundwork for a prolific career that has spanned over two decades and yielded numerous successful albums and DVDs.

Throughout their history, the band has collaborated and shared the stage with many notable artists within the national and international music spheres, including Natiruts, Tribo de Jah, and Armandinho. Albums such as Este é o Remédio and De Cara pro Mundo propelled them into mainstream recognition, featuring hits that dominated youth-oriented radio stations across the country. They achieved a historic milestone in 2023 by becoming the first national reggae band to perform at the Lollapalooza festival in Brazil.

Consisting of core members Zeider Pires, Fernandinho, Franja, Samambaia, Juliano Hodapp, and Fernando Tristão, Planta & Raiz continues to innovate while staying true to their roots. Their enduring popularity is a testament to their vibrant sound, which blends traditional reggae rhythms with Brazilian influences. They remain one of the most resilient and beloved acts in contemporary Brazilian music.
