Biography

Plebe Rude is a Brazilian punk rock band formed in Brasília, Distrito Federal, in mid-1981. Emerging from the "Turma da Colina," a cultural movement that also gave rise to bands like Aborto Elétrico (precursor to Capital Inicial and Legião Urbana), Plebe Rude stood out for its heavily social and political-themed lyrics, reflecting the context of the military dictatorship in Brazil. Influenced by British punk rock, especially by bands like The Clash, Plebe Rude developed a sound characterized by raw punk energy, but with a notable concern for composition and arrangements.

Since its formation, the band has gone through several lineup changes, but has kept Philippe Seabra as a founding and constant member. Currently, the band consists of Philippe Seabra (vocals and guitar), Clemente Nascimento (vocals and guitar), André X (bass and vocals), and Marcelo Capucci (drums). Throughout its career, Plebe Rude has released acclaimed albums such as "O Concreto Já Rachou" (1986), "Nunca Fomos Tão Brasileiros" (1987), and "R ao Contrário" (2006), consolidating itself as a landmark of national rock. Their songs, such as "Até Quando Esperar," "Johnny vai à Guerra," and "Censura," have become protest anthems and remain relevant to this day.

The band is known for its uncompromising stance regarding punk ideals, even in the face of commercial success. Plebe Rude has addressed themes such as political repression, social inequalities, and human behavior in difficult times, always with a direct and defiant language. Its trajectory is marked by a strong identity and loyalty to its principles, which has earned it a loyal audience and a prominent place in the history of Brazilian music.
