Biography

Posse Mente Zulu, or PMZ, is a Brazilian rap and hip hop group formed in 1992 in the city of São Paulo. The original trio consisted of Rappin' Hood, Johnny MC, and DJ Akeen. The group gained national recognition after a performance on November 20, 1995, honoring the 300th anniversary of Zumbi dos Palmares' death. Following this, they released the music video for the song "Sou Negrão," which received great acclaim on community radios and resulted in the release of a single.

In 1996, Posse Mente Zulu was awarded revelation of the year by Rapsoulfunk. A debut album project was planned, but it did not materialize due to Rappin' Hood's decision to pursue a solo career. However, in 2005, the three original members reunited and released "Revolusom: a Volta do Tape Perdido," a work that references the delay in the album's release.

Throughout their trajectory, PMZ has collaborated with various artists and participated in important moments of the Brazilian hip hop scene. In 2021, the group, with DJ Marko replacing DJ Akeen, released the single "A Lua Brilhou," showing the continuity of their musical production and adaptation to new lineups, without ever leaving behind their roots in rap and hip hop culture.
