Biography

Prentice Maciel Teixeira, known simply as Prentice, was a Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Pelotas in 1956. Coming from a musical family, he grew up with musical influences around him and began learning the guitar and songwriting in his youth. Throughout his career, he achieved significant success both as a performer and as a prolific composer for other renowned acts, frequently contributing to Brazilian television soap opera soundtracks.

As a singer, his breakthrough came with the hit single "Não Diga Nada," which was featured in the Rede Globo telenovela Ti Ti Ti and later recorded by artists like Fábio Júnior and Só pra Contrariar. His songwriting talents extended to crafting tracks for prominent MPB and pop icons, including Tim Maia, Wando, Alcione, and Xuxa, for whom he co-wrote popular songs such as "Dança da Xuxa." He also worked with artists like Ivan Lins and José Augusto, leaving behind a lasting footprint in Brazilian popular music before passing away in Petrópolis in 2005.
