Biography

João Procópio Ferreira was one of the greatest exponents of 20th-century Brazilian culture and theater, standing out as an actor, director, and playwright over a career spanning more than six decades. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he played over 500 characters in about 450 plays of various genres, ranging from comedies and revues to classical tragedies, in addition to being the father of the renowned artist Bibi Ferreira.

His artistic journey was marked by his mastery of comedy and circus-theater, as well as the launching of numerous national authors. He starred in the iconic show Deus lhe Pague by Joracy Camargo, which achieved resounding success in Brazil and abroad. Alongside his expressive contribution to the stage, Procópio also acted in notable film productions, such as O Comprador de Fazendas, adapted from the work of Monteiro Lobato, consolidating his invaluable legacy in the country's artistic history.
