Biography
The Quarteto do Rio is a vocal and instrumental group formed in 2016 by former members of the traditional Brazilian group Os Cariocas. Following the death of maestro Severino in 2016, the remaining members decided to continue their work, with Eloi and Neil having already been arranging for the ensemble in previous years. However, they were informed by Severino's family that the name "Os Cariocas" could no longer be used, leading them to create the "Quarteto do Rio".
The group's lineup includes Leandro Freixo on vocals and piano, Fábio Luna on vocals, drums, and flute, Neil Teixeira on vocals and bass, and Eloi Vicente on vocals and guitar. The Quarteto do Rio has been recognized for their contributions to Brazilian music, receiving acclaim and being featured in the Prêmio da Música Brasileira in 2017 and 2018. Their repertoire often includes arrangements of classic Brazilian songs, showcasing their harmonious vocalizations and instrumental prowess.
The Quarteto do Rio continues the legacy of sophisticated vocal arrangements and instrumental interpretations that characterized Os Cariocas. They have collaborated with notable Brazilian artists such as Roberto Menescal and Joyce Moreno, further solidifying their place in the contemporary Brazilian music scene. Their work is a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional Brazilian vocal group styles, adapted for a modern audience.
