Biography

Quatro a Zero is a Brazilian choro group formed in 2001 by students at the music course of the Universidade de Campinas (UNICAMP). The band was initially composed of four musicians from different cities, hence the name "Quatro a Zero" (Four to Zero). The group's members have diverse musical backgrounds, contributing to their unique sound that blends traditional choro with contemporary influences.

The ensemble's instrumentation typically includes guitar, seven-string guitar, bandolim, electric bass, cavaquinho, accordion, piano, drums, and percussion. This rich instrumental palette allows them to explore a wide range of sonic textures and arrangements. Quatro a Zero has released several albums, including "Choro Elétrico" (2004), "Alegria" (2005), and "Mesmo Outro". Their music often features original compositions alongside interpretations of choro classics.

Quatro a Zero has gained recognition through performances at various cultural events and festivals, such as the "Projeto Prata da Casa" at SESC Pompéia and shows at Sala Funarte in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. They also achieved second place in the "7º Prêmio Visa de Música Brasileira – Edição Instrumental" in 2004. The group's work has been noted for its innovative approach to choro, incorporating elements of jazz and other instrumental music genres, solidifying their place in the contemporary Brazilian instrumental music scene.
