Biography

The Quinteto Pixinguinha was a Brazilian musical group formed in 1972, initially as a quartet of flutes, with the blessing of the legendary Pixinguinha himself. The original lineup featured Mauro Senise, Kim Ribeiro, Raul Mascarenhas, and Ronaldo Albernas. The group had the opportunity to perform with Pixinguinha on the television show "Fantástico" and a special on Rádio JB, solidifying their connection to the master of choro music.

Over time, the ensemble evolved, with the second formation including Andrea Ernest Dias and Franklin da Flauta, alongside Mauro Senise and Kim Ribeiro, and later Raimundo Nicioli. The Quinteto Pixinguinha dedicated itself to interpreting and preserving the rich legacy of Brazilian choro and popular music, often featuring the compositions of Pixinguinha and other masters of the genre. Their work contributed to keeping the choro tradition alive and accessible to new generations.

The group released a self-titled album in 1999, showcasing their refined interpretations and instrumental prowess. The Quinteto Pixinguinha's contributions lie in their dedication to the choro genre, honoring one of Brazil's most important musical figures while also exploring new directions within the tradition. Their music is characterized by virtuosic performances and a deep respect for the roots of Brazilian instrumental music.
