Biography

Quinteto Vento em Madeira is a Brazilian instrumental musical group formed in São Paulo. The group's name came from a composition by Léa Freire, which later inspired the formation of the collective to perform the material. The quintet's proposal is to explore the fusion between popular and classical music, combining rigor and freedom, structure and improvisation, tradition and avant-garde.

The group is composed of Tiago Costa (piano), Fernando DeMarco (acoustic double bass), Léa Freire (flutes), Teco Cardoso (flutes and saxophones), and Edu Ribeiro (drums and percussion). This lineup seeks a harmonic, rhythmic, and melodic balance, with original work that brings together compositions and arrangements by the members themselves, in addition to revisiting and paying tribute to masters of Brazilian music such as Moacir Santos and Nelson Cavaquinho.

Quinteto Vento em Madeira has released several albums, including "Quinteto Vento em Madeira" (2012), "Brasiliana" (2013), and "Arraial" (2015). The group has also featured special guest appearances by renowned artists such as Mônica Salmaso and Guinga, and has performed on important stages and festivals throughout Brazil. Their music is characterized by a rich and diverse sound, which moves between chamber and popular, local and global.
