Biography

Quinteto Villa-Lobos is a renowned Brazilian wind quintet founded in 1962, with the primary objective of spreading and promoting chamber music in the country. The group's current and historical lineup features prominent instrumentalists who perform as soloists in Brazil and internationally, keeping the work of national composers alive and engaging with different musical strands, such as choro and concert music.

Throughout decades of history, the ensemble has taken Brazilian music to various world stages, participating in highly prestigious events such as the opening of the Villa-Lobos year at UNESCO in Paris, in addition to conducting tours across Europe, the Americas, and Africa. Among the milestones of its career, collaboration with important names in Brazilian music stands out, such as multi-instrumentalist Egberto Gismonti, with whom they performed in Argentina in 2001.

Recognized by specialized critics, the group has been awarded on multiple occasions with the Carlos Gomes Prize as the best chamber group in Brazil and celebrated half a century of uninterrupted activities in 2012. In addition to its intense concert schedule, which includes participation in renowned festivals such as the Campos do Jordão Winter Festival, the members dedicate themselves to music teaching in universities, consolidating the quintet as a true institution of Brazilian instrumental culture.
