Rafael Barata is a renowned Brazilian drummer, born in Rio de Janeiro on September 26, 1980. The son of musician Roberto Mendes and brother of pianist Roberto Barata, his childhood was immersed in the musical universe, with a strong influence of samba and bossa nova, genuinely carioca rhythms that shaped his rhythmic identity. Barata showed early talent, starting to play the drums at age five and recording professionally for the first time at 14. At 15, he won the "Batuka" festival, and at 20, the "Batuka Masters," consolidating his name as one of the great talents of the new generation. His career is marked by extensive collaboration with nationally and internationally renowned artists, moving masterfully between jazz and Brazilian music.

His trajectory has led him to perform and record with an impressive list of musicians, including names like Eliane Elias, with whom he worked on award-winning albums, Rosa Passos, Leny Andrade, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, Ivan Lins, and Jaques Morelenbaum, with whom he is a member of the Cello Samba Trio. Barata has also performed at various jazz festivals around the world, solidifying his reputation as a versatile, high-performance drummer. His ability to blend the sophistication of jazz with Brazilian rhythmic richness has made him one of the most sought-after drummers on the music scene.
