Biography

Raiz Coral was a pioneering Brazilian contemporary Christian vocal group known for their distinctive fusion of black music and R&B. Founded in March 2000 by childhood friends Sergio Saas and Daniel Carvalho, widely known as Scooby, the group originated in the Capão Redondo neighborhood in the southern zone of São Paulo. What began as a 40-member afro-Brazilian choir quickly evolved into one of the most influential black gospel acts in the country, captivating audiences with rich vocal harmonies and dynamic arrangements.

Throughout their active years, the group released several notable albums and collaborated extensively with prominent figures in the Brazilian evangelical music scene, including Apocalipse 16, Voz da Verdade, and Leonardo Gonçalves, whose feature on the track "Jesus Meu Guia É" helped propel their 2004 debut album, Pra Louvar, to massive commercial success. Their exceptional vocal talents also led them to provide backing and guest vocals on legendary worship projects, such as Toque no Altar's seminal live recordings like Restituição and Olha pra Mim.

Following internal changes and the departure of key members, the group eventually concluded their run with their final studio and live projects, encapsulated by the Vencedor albums recorded at the Bola de Neve church. Although the band officially ended, their legacy was cemented in 2015 when Mess Entretenimento released a retrospective compilation titled As Melhores Canções do Raiz Coral. Today, the members' influence continues to resonate through the solo work of artists like Sergio Saas and Davi Sacer, leaving an indelible mark on Brazilian gospel music.
