Biography

Rastapé is a Brazilian forró universitário band formed in São Paulo in 1999 by accordionist Jorge Lunguinho, known as Seu Jorge. The original lineup also featured his sons Jorge Filho on vocals, and Tico on guitar, acoustic guitar, and cavaquinho, alongside percussionists Chiquinho and Marquinhos. Embracing the traditional forró pé-de-serra sound, the group quickly gained recognition in the early 2000s through compilation albums like O Som do Forró and Pop Dez Mais, the latter featuring their breakout hit "Colo de Menina" written by Jorge Filho.

Following their initial success, Rastapé released their debut album Fale Comigo in 2000 via Abril Music, which featured notable tracks such as "Beijo Roubado" and "Luau em Dunas", as well as guest appearances by Osvaldinho do Acordeom. Their prominent standing within the forró universitário movement was further solidified with the release of their 2002 album Até o Dia Clarear, which achieved gold certification with over 100,000 copies sold. Throughout their career, they have shared stages and collaborated with prominent Brazilian artists like Luiz Gonzaga, Jackson do Pandeiro, Alcione, and Dominguinhos.

In 2005, the band released their first live DVD, Cantando a História do Forró, through EMI, featuring guest performances by Fafá de Belém, Alcione, and Trio Nordestino. Over the decades, Rastapé has maintained a robust recording and touring schedule, releasing multiple albums and EPs including Tudo é Forró, Rastapé Origem, and singles like "Rastapé Olha Aí". Their contributions to forró have cemented their legacy alongside contemporaries such as Maskavo and Trio Nordestino.
