Biography

Raul do Valle is a renowned Brazilian composer, conductor, professor, and pianist, born in Leme, São Paulo, on March 27, 1936. His musical training was solid, having studied with maestro Camargo Guarnieri and graduating in composition and conducting from the Santos Musical Conservatory in 1973. Throughout his career, he stood out in the country's artistic avant-garde, being one of the founding members of the Brazilian Contemporary Music Society and the Brazilian Electroacoustic Music Society.

In addition to his intense creative activity, Valle played a fundamental role in education and academic research. He worked as a professor at the Arts Institute of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), an institution where he later retired. In 1983, he created the Interdisciplinary Center for Sound Communication (NICS), serving as its coordinator until 2000. His prestige in the classical milieu was consolidated in 1994, when he was elected a member of the Brazilian Academy of Music.

The composer's catalog of works encompasses striking instrumental and symphonic pieces, such as Contextura, Flutuações, Contrastes, and Ipês. Besides concert music, Raul do Valle composed internationally award-winning soundtracks for documentaries like Beija-Flor and Terra de Engenho, earning recognition at festivals in the United States.
