Biography

Raul Sampaio Cocco was a celebrated Brazilian singer and composer born in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim on July 6, 1928, and passing away in the same city on January 26, 2022. He began his artistic journey as a soloist for the ensemble Dois Jacks e uma Dama on local radio before moving to Rio de Janeiro in 1949. Over his prolific career, he authored more than 200 compositions and notably joined the famed Trio de Ouro in 1952 alongside Herivelto Martins and Lourdinha Bittencourt.

Sampaio's most iconic creation is the song "Meu Pequeno Cachoeiro," which was famously interpreted by Roberto Carlos and officially adopted as the anthem of his hometown. Throughout his musical path, he collaborated with numerous renowned partners such as Benil Santos, Marino Pinto, and Haroldo Lobo, while having his songs recorded by legendary interpreters like Nelson Gonçalves, Orlando Silva, and Carlos Galhardo. His contributions earned him prestigious recognitions, including the title of Cidadão do Estado da Guanabara and the title of Cachoeirense Ausente.
