Biography

Reggae B is a Brazilian reggae, ragga, dub, and ska band formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2001. Led by Bi Ribeiro, bassist of the renowned group Os Paralamas do Sucesso, the band was originally named Reggae Brasil, later being changed to Reggae B. The original lineup featured heavy-hitting musicians, such as Ronaldo Silva on drums, Jean Pierre and João Fera on keyboards, Cláudio Menezes on guitar, Marlon and Bidu Cordeiro on trombones, Valnei Ainê on vocals, and Gustavo Black Alien also on vocals.

The group made its debut in Curitiba in 2001, opening for the iconic reggae band The Wailers. Throughout its journey, Reggae B has held memorable performances, including a solo show in 2003 at Ballroom, in Rio de Janeiro, which featured several guests such as Daúde, Rás Bernardo, and Nelson Meireles. In 2005, the band performed at Circo Voador, also in the capital of Rio de Janeiro state.

The sound of Reggae B is marked by the fusion of Caribbean rhythms with the energy of Brazilian rock, reflecting the quality of its members, many of whom have vast experience in other established bands from the national music scene. The band contributes to the rich tapestry of Brazilian reggae, a genre that strengthened in the country starting in the 1980s and 1990s, mixing Jamaican influences with Brazil's social and cultural reality.
