Biography
Renato Becker Borghetti, better known as Renato Borghetti or Borghettinho, was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, on July 23, 1963. A renowned Brazilian instrumentalist and accordionist, he gained international prominence for his mastery and innovation in playing the button accordion, becoming one of the main references of gaucho nativist music. His artistic journey began in his teens, when he received his first accordion from his father and started performing at gaucho tradition centers, drawing attention both for his instrumental skill and his typical, bold stage appearance.
The major milestone of his career occurred in 1984 with the release of his independent debut album, Gaita-Ponto, which quickly surpassed historical sales records in the regional and national scene. The album sold hundreds of thousands of copies, earning him gold and platinum records, an unprecedented feat for an instrumental album in Brazil. Over the years, Borghetti expanded his musical boundaries, moving fluidly between nativism, jazz, classical music, and choro. He has collaborated with various icons of Brazilian music, such as Hermeto Pascoal, Sivuca, Dominguinhos, Milton Nascimento, Yamandu Costa, and Wagner Tiso, in addition to touring several countries in Europe and the Americas.
His extensive discography features wise partnerships and special projects, including live albums recorded in Europe and records dedicated to classics of regional and national culture. Renato Borghetti has also received important recognitions throughout his career, including Latin Grammy nominations in the category of best regional or roots Brazilian music album. Through his tireless work with the button accordion, he has brought the sound of the pampas to prestigious stages worldwide, consolidating a unique legacy in Brazilian instrumental music.
