Biography

Renato Floriano Murce was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1900 and established himself as one of the pioneers and most important names in the history of Brazilian radio. He played an active role in fundraising for the maintenance of Rádio Sociedade alongside figures like Roquette Pinto, helping to consolidate the medium in the country. Throughout his career at Rádio Nacional do Rio de Janeiro, he created iconic programs such as Cenas escolares — later renamed Piadas do Manduca due to censorship by the Vargas government —, in addition to hosting hugely popular shows.

His creative and hosting flair also stood out in talent and musical shows, and he was responsible for creating Papel carbono, a program that revealed various talents of Brazilian popular music. In his shows, he gave space and boosted the careers of major names such as Ary Barroso, Baden Powell, Dóris Monteiro, and Alaíde Costa, as well as launching future stars of song and comedy. His artistic instinct helped shape the country's radio and television programming, influencing formats that would later reach the small screen.

Beyond radio, Murce was involved with television, participating in productions and projects alongside communicators like Flávio Cavalcanti and Jota Silvestre. His personal life also gained prominence in the press of the time, especially after his marriage to actress Eliana Macedo in 1950. Renato Murce passed away in January 1987, leaving an invaluable legacy preserved in the memory of national broadcasting and in cultural collections.
