Biography

Ricardo Breim is a Brazilian composer, arranger, keyboardist, and music educator born in São Paulo in 1952. With a degree in Electronic Engineering, Breim has dedicated his career to both musical creation and education, viewing the two as intrinsically linked. He has worked extensively in music education, including coordinating the PAM "Musical Literacy Project" for the State Department of Education in São Paulo and directing his own music school, Espaço Musical, for over forty years. His pedagogical approach emphasizes music as a language and musical perception as a core element in building musical knowledge.

Breim's musical career has seen him collaborate with various artists and groups, notably serving as an arranger and keyboardist for Rumo and Quintaessência. He has also composed soundtracks for film and video. His work often blurs the lines between pedagogical exercises and finished songs, with many of his compositions originating from melodies created for his students. This unique approach is highlighted in his 2024 album "Sons e Tons," released by Selo Sesc, which features eighteen tracks, many of which were developed from his teaching materials.

His influence extends to many prominent Brazilian musicians who have been connected to his school, Espaço Musical. Artists such as Arnaldo Antunes, Chico César, Mônica Salmaso, Ná Ozzetti, Zeca Baleiro, and Zé Miguel Wisnik have collaborated with Breim or are associated with his educational project. Breim's dedication to music education and his innovative compositional methods have made him a significant figure in the Brazilian music scene, particularly in the realm of popular music and music pedagogy.
