Biography
Ricardo Chaves is a Brazilian singer and instrumentalist, born in Salvador, Bahia. At the beginning of his artistic career, he worked as a bassist in a rock group called Fim da Picada and also joined the rock band Cabo de Guerra, before consolidating his career in axé music.
In 1982, at the invitation of Durval Lélys, he took over as lead singer for the Banda Pinel block, where he stayed for five years. After this phase, he pursued a solo career starting in 1986 and released his debut album the following year, titled Era Matéria, through the RCA record label.
Throughout his career in the Salvador Carnival, he led major blocks such as Frenesi, Banda Eva, Crocodilo, and Coruja. It was precisely while leading the Crocodilo block that he composed his biggest commercial success, the song "O Bicho", solidifying his importance within the axé music scene.
