Biography
Ricardo de Oliveira Costa, widely known as Ricardo Costa or Ricardo Polegar, is a Brazilian musician and politician who rose to fame as the drummer of the 1980s boy band Polegar. Born in Marília, São Paulo, he was discovered and brought into the musical scene through the television networks and the backing of presenter Gugu Liberato, who formed the group under the Promoart label. Initially performing with mock setups and cymbals before establishing his role as a drummer, Ricardo achieved massive nationwide success with the band alongside fellow members such as Alex Gill and Rafael Ilha.
Following the initial dissolution of Polegar in 1994, Ricardo pursued various endeavors, including radio work and event coordination, while attempting to maintain a presence in the public eye. In the mid-2000s, he participated in a brief reunion of the band alongside former bandmates, recording new versions of their classic hits before returning to independent pursuits. His later career also extended into local politics, where he ran for public office in Mogi das Cruzes.
Throughout his career, Ricardo has remained a recognizable figure of the Brazilian teen pop and boy band explosion of the late 20th century. His musical journey is deeply intertwined with the history of groups like Polegar and the broader pop culture landscape promoted by television variety shows of that era. Alongside his musical trajectory, he shares historical ties with other prominent figures of Brazilian entertainment and music from the same period.
