Biography

Rick & Renner is an influential Brazilian sertanejo duo formed in 1986, composed of Geraldo Antônio de Carvalho (Rick) and Ivair dos Reis Gonçalves (Renner). Rick, born in Monte do Carmo (Tocantins) on December 5, 1966, developed his taste for music through his father, who sang at street markets. Initially, he formed a duo with his sister, Sereno & Serenata, but the partnership was interrupted due to family reasons. Renner, born in Patos de Minas (Minas Gerais) on November 19, 1971, was influenced by Brazilian rock, listening to bands like Legião Urbana and Capital Inicial. The two met in Brasília when Rick, looking for a partner, heard Renner sing at a nightclub and invited him to form the duo.

The duo gained national prominence in 1998 with the hit "Ela é demais", which remained on the charts for five consecutive months, boosting sales of their albums. Throughout a career spanning more than 25 years, Rick & Renner have performed for an audience estimated at over 225 million people and sold over 15 million records. In addition to being singers, Rick is also recognized as a songwriter and musical producer, having his compositions recorded by various renowned sertanejo artists, such as Chitãozinho & Xororó, Milionário & José Rico, and Zezé Di Camargo & Luciano.

The journey of Rick & Renner has been marked by hits, but also by separations and reunions, in addition to a serious accident suffered by Renner. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the duo held online performances on YouTube, such as "Em prol do Estado do Maranhão" and "At Home", raising donations and reaching millions of views. With a repertory that became the soundtrack for many Brazilians, Rick & Renner are synonymous with traditional sertanejo with strong popular appeal, maintaining a connection with audiences of various age groups.
