Biography

Roberta Valente is a prominent Brazilian musician, recognized primarily as a pandeiro player, but also as an educator, producer, and scholar of choro and samba music.

Her musical journey began in childhood with participation in chorales, school bands, and music study groups. She further honed her skills by studying guitar, cavaquinho, and percussion. Valente has been an active performer in various choro groups, including Bola Preta, Choro Rasgado, Chorando as Pitangas, and Trio Mandando Bala, establishing herself as an expert in her field. She has also collaborated with numerous renowned Brazilian artists such as Beth Carvalho, Izaías do Bandolim, Dona Ivone Lara, and Martinho da Vila, among many others.

Beyond her performance career, Roberta Valente is deeply involved in the research and dissemination of Brazilian popular music. She has contributed as a researcher and editor to the book "Antologia Musical Popular Brasileira – As marchinhas de carnaval" and has participated in projects aimed at celebrating the legacies of iconic Brazilian musicians like Noel Rosa and Carmen Miranda. Her work as a researcher and educator has taken her across Brazil and internationally, including tours in Australia, India, the United States, and several European countries.
