Biography
Rodolfo Stroeter is a highly influential Brazilian bassist, composer, and producer born in São Paulo in 1958. He emerged in the late 1970s as a key figure in the experimental and instrumental music scene of São Paulo. His early professional career began in 1979 with the group Divina Increnca, but he gained significant recognition as a founding member of the ensemble Pau Brasil alongside Nelson Ayres, where he served as a performer, composer, and producer.\n\nDuring the 1980s, Stroeter joined the avant-garde collective Grupo Um, collaborating with Lelo Nazário and Zé Eduardo Nazário. His versatility as an instrumentalist allowed him to collaborate with many of the greatest icons of Brazilian music, including Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo, and Joyce Moreno. He also developed a notable partnership with Antônio Madureira, exploring the intersections of popular and chamber music, which resulted in the acclaimed album Romançário.\n\nBeyond his work as a musician, Stroeter has had a profound impact on the Brazilian music industry as a producer and artistic director. He founded the Pau Brasil label to promote contemporary Brazilian music and served as the artistic director of the Jazz Sinfônica Orchestra of São Paulo between 1996 and 1999. His production credits include Zizi Possi's album Mais Simples and Marlui Miranda's award-winning Todos os sons. He was also a key figure behind the success of Banda Mantiqueira, which earned a Grammy nomination under his management.
