Biography
Rodrigo Hayashi Tavares Bastos Pinto, better known by his stage name Rodrigo Ogi, is a prominent Brazilian rapper born in São Paulo. He initially began rapping in 1994 before shifting his focus to graffiti and street tagging, eventually returning to the hip-hop scene in 2003 when he co-founded the group ContraFluxo. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation as one of the most inventive lyricists in Brazilian rap, collaborating with artists such as Nathy MC.
His solo career took off with notable music videos and singles like "A Dama e o Vagabundo" and "Premonição," which preceded his highly regarded 2011 debut solo album, Crônicas da Cidade Cinza. Over the years, Ogi has expanded his discography with acclaimed releases such as RÁ! in 2015, Pé no Chão in 2017, and Aleatoriamente in 2023. His work with ContraFluxo also yielded important underground records like Missões e Planos and Super Ação during the mid-2000s.
Ogi's contributions to the genre were recognized early on when he received a nomination in the Rap category at MTV's Video Music Brasil (VMB) in 2010. Drawing comparisons in terms of narrative depth to legendary figures in Brazilian urban music, he continues to shape the landscape of national hip-hop alongside peers like Emicida and Criolo.
