Biography
Roger José Cury, known artistically as Rogê, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, born on April 25, 1975, in Rio de Janeiro.
From an early age, Rogê showed an interest in music, receiving his first acoustic guitar at age ten and soon after deepening his studies in harmony and musical perception. His academic background included a degree in Brazilian Popular Music at UNIRIO, which he began in 1993. His musical career gained prominence through a decade-long residency at Carioca da Gema, a renowned samba club in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, where he built a solid fan base in the 2000s.
Rogê is recognized for his "samba-soul" style, a vibrant fusion of samba-funk with influences from Brazilian soul, characterized by a voice that is both raspy and youthful. His work moves across various rhythms, including bossa nova and reggae, and addresses themes such as nature, Brazil's indigenous and African roots, and human resilience. In 2019, Rogê moved with his family to Los Angeles, California, expanding his international reach and releasing the album "Curyman" in 2023, produced by Thomas Brenneck. He has collaborated with artists such as Seu Jorge and Arlindo Cruz, and composed the theme song for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
