Biography
Rogério Skylab, born Rogério Tolomei Teixeira on September 2, 1956, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, lyricist, classical guitarist, author, blogger, record producer, actor, and television presenter. Describing himself as a "corpse within MPB", Skylab has cultivated a passionate cult following with his unique musical style characterized by minimalism, repetition, and eclecticism. His writings are known for their grotesque, shocking, and offensive imagery, acerbic allusions to popular culture, metafictional and transgressive devices, absurdist and macabre scenarios, pessimism, foul language, nihilism, and scatological and black comedy. Despite these elements, he has repeatedly denied that his work is purposefully humorous.
Skylab began his musical career in the 1980s as part of a punk rock band called "Setembro Negro" before launching his solo career in the 1990s. His debut album, "Fora da Grei," released in 1992, was critically acclaimed. His popularity surged in 1999 with the release of his self-titled album, "Skylab," the first in a series of ten. Throughout his career, Skylab has explored various musical directions, including experimental rock, art rock, noise rock, samba rock, and MPB. He has also delved into literature, authoring poetry collections and essays. Beyond music, he hosted a talk show and appeared as an actor in films. Skylab has collaborated with various Brazilian artists, including Jorge Mautner and Jards Macalé, further cementing his unique place in Brazilian music.
