Biography
Ronaldo Fernando Esquerdo Bôscoli was a multifaceted Brazilian artist, born in Rio de Janeiro on October 28, 1928, and passing away in the same city on November 18, 1994. His career spanned several areas, including composition, writing, musical production, talent scouting, press relations, and journalism. Known for his controversial and charming personality, Bôscoli left an indelible mark on Brazilian music, especially within the Bossa Nova movement.
With a notable artistic lineage as the great-grand-nephew of composer Chiquinha Gonzaga, Bôscoli began his professional career as a sports journalist. His sharp intelligence and caustic sense of humor made him stand out, and his friendship with Vinicius de Moraes was fundamental to his immersion in the Rio de Janeiro music scene. Starting in 1957, he frequented Nara Leão's apartment, where he gathered with other artists to shape what would become Bossa Nova, writing columns about the movement for the newspaper "Última Hora".
Bôscoli was one of the pillars of Bossa Nova, participating in shows that already announced "modern sambas" and serving as a mentor to many musicians and artists. His personal life was also marked by relationships with prominent figures such as Maysa, Elis Regina, and Nara Leão. In addition to his work in music, Bôscoli also stood out for his activism against racism, as evidenced by his partnership with Roberto Menescal on the song "Negro" and his act of taking Elza Soares to the Copacabana Palace to protest against discrimination.
