Biography

Ronnie Von is a prominent Brazilian singer, songwriter, and television presenter who rose to fame during the 1960s as a key figure of the Jovem Guarda movement. Gaining the nickname "O Príncipe" (The Prince) from Hebe Camargo, he became known for hits like "A Praça" and his Portuguese version of the Beatles' "Girl," titled "Meu bem." His television program also played a crucial role in Brazilian music history by serving as a launchpad for the Tropicália movement, notably connecting him with avant-garde artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, and Os Mutantes.

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Ronnie Von transitioned into a celebrated psychedelic rock artist, releasing inventive and critically revered albums such as his self-titled 1968 record, A Misteriosa Luta do Reino de Parassempre Contra o Império de Nuncamais, and A Máquina Voadora. Although these records achieved modest commercial success at the time, they later gained cult status among international and domestic collectors of psychedelic music.

In addition to his prolific musical career, Ronnie Von established a successful longevity in Brazilian television as a talk show and variety host, leading programs such as Mãe de Gravata and Todo Seu on TV Gazeta. Over the decades, he has remained a beloved cultural figure in Brazil, celebrated both for his early pop idol days and his pioneering psychedelic artistry alongside peers like Roberto Carlos.
