Biography

Rosana de Saldanha da Gama Lanzelotte is a prominent Brazilian harpsichordist and researcher, born in Rio de Janeiro on June 23, 1961. She began her musical journey studying piano at the age of five, later graduating from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where she first encountered the harpsichord. She furthered her specialization in harpsichord and baroque music under Jacques Ogg at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands, while also holding degrees in electrical engineering and a master's and doctorate in computer science from PUC-Rio.

Her performance career took off in 1974 when she joined the Rio de Janeiro-based musical group Quadro Cervantes, performing with them until 1990. On the international stage, she has played at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall and Academy of St Martin in the Fields in London, Palazzo Barberini in Rome, and the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. Alongside her work as a performer, she has recorded multiple albums dedicated to expanding the harpsichord's repertoire in Brazil, notably featuring unpublished works and contributing to the revival of early music pioneered in the country by figures like Roberto de Regina.

Beyond her performance career, Lanzelotte is deeply committed to cultural dissemination and music education. Since 1993, she has directed the "Música nas Igrejas" series, bringing classical concerts to diverse parishes across Rio de Janeiro, including underprivileged neighborhoods. In 2009, she launched the Musica Brasilis portal, a major digital initiative supported by the BNDES that provides public access to thousands of scores, audio tracks, and videos of Brazilian compositions ranging from the colonial era to contemporary times, encompassing the complete works of Ernesto Nazareth. Her contributions have earned her widespread recognition, including the "Golfinho de Ouro" award from the State Council of Culture of Rio de Janeiro and the Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government.
