Biography

Rosemeire Silva Santos, better known as Rose Ratinha, is a Brazilian percussionist born in Candeal, Bahia, in 1981. Her musical journey began with a passion for percussion, which blossomed in the 1990s during Timbalada rehearsals. Ratinha stood out as a member of "Bolacha Maria," Candeal's first all-female percussion band, created by Carlinhos Brown. The nickname "Ratinha" arose due to her agility in moving around and handling instruments on stage.

"Bolacha Maria" was a milestone in Rose Ratinha's career and in Brazilian music, as it represented an opportunity for socialization and empowerment for women in a predominantly male musical scene. The band explored rhythms of samba de roda and Candeal, using traditional and unconventional instruments, such as pots and basins, in innovative arrangements.

With over 30 years of experience, Rose Ratinha has collaborated with several renowned Brazilian music artists, including É o Tchan, Armandinho, Chiclete com Banana, Fafá de Belém, and Riachão. She has also been a member of bands like Levada Louca and Banda Didá, as well as orchestras such as Obirín and Orkestra Rumpilezz, under the conduction of maestro Letieres Leite. Currently, Rose Ratinha also works as a music educator, teaching percussion courses and workshops, especially focused on the timbal, sharing her vast knowledge and passion for the instrument.
