Biography
Rubel Brisolla Rodrigues, known professionally as Rubel, is a prominent Brazilian singer, songwriter, and filmmaker born in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro. After moving to the state capital at a young age, he initially explored alternative rock with his high school band, A Corleones. However, it was during a cinema exchange program at the University of Texas at Austin that Rubel began crafting the acoustic-driven compositions that would define his early solo career.\n\nHis debut album, Pearl (2013), gained massive traction online, particularly through the hit single 'Quando Bate Aquela Saudade,' which Rubel directed himself. This success established him as a leading voice in the new generation of MPB. His follow-up album, Casas (2018), showcased a more experimental approach by blending his folk roots with hip-hop influences, featuring collaborations with renowned Brazilian artists Emicida and Rincon Sapiência. The record earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Portuguese Language Rock or Alternative Rock Album.\n\nBeyond his musical output, Rubel has maintained a strong presence in the film and television industry, writing for shows such as Mister Brau and Lady Night, and participating in the Disney+ series Tá Tudo Certo. In 2023, he released the ambitious double album As Palavras, Vol. 1 & 2, which further explored the boundaries of contemporary pop and earned him another Latin Grammy nod. Rubel continues to be a prolific figure in the Brazilian cultural scene, having released his fourth studio album, Beleza. Mas agora a gente faz o que com isso?, in 2025.
