Biography

Rubens Cubeiro Rodrigues, better known as Rubinho, was a Brazilian jazz guitarist born on July 6, 1935. Throughout his career, he contributed to the Brazilian musical landscape, notably participating in various sertanejo music programs on SBT during the 1980s, where he often performed alongside playback tracks.

He gained widespread recognition when he joined the original lineup of Quinteto Onze e Meia in 1988, the house band created for Jô Soares's late-night talk show Jô Soares Onze e Meia. On television, he portrayed a serious persona who never laughed at the host's jokes, contrasting with his off-screen reputation as a talkative and playful colleague among musicians such as Jô Soares.

In his equipment choices, Rubinho was known for playing a Giannini-manufactured copy of the Gibson SG. His iconic setup was further highlighted in 1998 when rock musician Herbert Vianna gifted him an Epiphone G400 during an appearance on the talk show. Rubinho passed away on February 12, 1999, in São Paulo, following complications from a stroke.
