Biography
Rubinho e Mauro Assumpção were a Brazilian psychedelic rock duo formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1970s. The group consisted of Rubinho on guitar, keyboards, and vocals, and Mauro Assumpção on vocals and lyrics. Their music was heavily influenced by the psychedelic rock sound of Californian bands from the 1960s, blending folk, MPB, funky-psych, rock, and samba elements.
Despite their short duration, they released one highly sought-after album, "Perfeitamente, Justamente Quando Cheguei," in 1972, on the Tapecar Records label. The album featured other notable musicians, including drummer Gêgê, who had worked with Milton Nascimento, and guitarist Rick Ferreira, who had played with artists like Gal Costa. The album has since been reissued multiple times due to its rarity and critical acclaim within Brazilian music circles.
The duo's work is considered a significant contribution to the Brazilian psychedelic and MPB scenes of the era. Their unique fusion of styles and the distinct lyrical and musical contributions of Rubinho and Mauro Assumpção have cemented their place as a noteworthy act in Brazilian music history, often compared to contemporaries like Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges for their musical depth and innovation.
