Biography
Ruriá Duprat is a Brazilian conductor, arranger, composer, music producer, and pianist, born on July 9, 1959, in Rio de Janeiro. He is the nephew of the renowned Brazilian maestro Rogério Duprat, who was a pivotal figure in the Tropicália movement.
Duprat's musical journey began at a young age, studying guitar and later percussion before dedicating himself to the piano at 14. His professional career commenced at 17, accompanying artists like Altemar Dutra. In the late 1970s, he spent six months in Japan with his band Grupo Acarú, where he acquired early synthesizers, becoming one of the first Brazilian musicians to incorporate modern electronic sounds into his work. This led to extensive work in studios, creating jingles and soundtracks for television and film.
He pursued higher education at Berklee College of Music in Boston on a scholarship secured through Quincy Jones. At Berklee, he specialized in composition, conducting, orchestration, piano, and synthesizers, graduating in music for cinema. Duprat has since become a prolific composer and producer, contributing to numerous films, commercials, and albums, and collaborating with a wide array of Brazilian and international artists, earning accolades such as Latin Grammy and Grammy awards.
