Biography

Saecula Saeculorum was a Brazilian symphonic progressive rock band formed in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 1974. The band's creative core consisted of guitarist José Audísio and pianist Giácomo Lombardi. In 1975, violinist Marcus Viana joined, completing the lineup that would record their debut album.

The band's sole album, also titled "Saecula Saeculorum," was recorded in 1976 but faced contractual issues with Warner Bros., which demanded simplification of the songs for commercial appeal. The band refused, leading to the termination of their contract and their subsequent dissolution in 1977. Despite their short lifespan and lack of recognition at the time, their music showcased intricate compositions blending classical influences, piano, violin, and ambitious guitar work.

Although the members went their separate ways, the experience was never forgotten. The original demo tapes were eventually recovered, remastered, and released as the album "Saecula Saeculorum" in 1996. Marcus Viana later achieved significant success with the band Sagrado Coração da Terra. The band reunited in 2007 for a concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album's release, which was recorded live.
