Biography

O Salário Mínimo is a Brazilian heavy metal and hard rock band formed in 1981, in the city of São Paulo. Since the beginning, the group adopted the mantra of singing exclusively in Portuguese, building a sound frequently compared to that of Judas Priest and standing out in the São Paulo underground scene with performances at emblematic venues such as Madame Satã and Teatro Lira Paulistana.

The band's national consolidation occurred in 1984, when they participated in the historic compilation SP Metal 1, released by Luiz Calanca's Baratos Afins label, alongside other references of the genre like Centúrias. In 1987, with their classic lineup, they released their first studio album, Beijo Fatal, through the RCA record label, reaching the impressive mark of 78 thousand copies sold and further projecting heavy rock made in Brazil.

After a period of hiatus in the 1990s, the group resumed activities in the 2000s under the leadership of vocalist China Lee, participating in important festivals such as Roça'n'Roll and sharing the stage with major names in national and international heavy music. Throughout their trajectory, O Salário Mínimo established themselves as one of the pioneer pillars of national metal sung in their native language.
